The procedure to assign a rent cap to a charge element is as follows:
- Navigate to Quick Menu > Rents > Configuration > Rent Capping. The Cap Details window is displayed.
- Select a rent cap from the alphabetical list or type its name into the Search Rent Cap field. By default the list is filtered to show Current rent caps. An alternative filter can be applied using the Select view drop-down field: Expired, Future or All combinations

- Click on Elements. The Elements tab is activated.
- Click on New Element. The Cap Element window is displayed.
- Using the Element drop-down field, select an element to which the cap will be applied.
- Where a proportion of the rent cap difference (capped value minus base value) is to be deducted from the individual element charge, activate the Apportion to this element tick box provided

- Click on Confirm. The selected element is displayed in the Cap Elements summary table.
- Repeat steps 4 through 7 to add additional elements to the rent cap.
- Click on Save.

1 The Search Rent Cap field will match against any element of the rent cap description.
2 The term 'base value' refers to the latest calculated rent charge prior to a cap being applied.
